How It Works

Understanding color harmonies

Complementary colors sit directly opposite each other on the color wheel (180° apart), creating high contrast and visual impact. Triadic colors are evenly spaced (120° apart), offering vibrant but balanced palettes. Analogous colors sit close together (30° apart), producing harmonious, cohesive palettes.

How this generator works

This tool converts your base hex color to HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness), rotates the hue value according to your chosen harmony type, then converts each resulting hue back to hex, keeping saturation and lightness consistent across the palette.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which harmony type should I use?

Complementary works well for bold accent colors, triadic for vibrant, balanced designs, and analogous for subtle, cohesive color schemes, the right choice depends on the mood you're aiming for.
