Overtime pay is calculated by applying a multiplier, commonly 1.5x ('time and a half'), sometimes 2x ('double time'), to your regular hourly rate for hours worked beyond your standard schedule. This calculator adds regular pay (hourly rate × regular hours) and overtime pay (hourly rate × multiplier × overtime hours) to get your total weekly pay, then multiplies by your paid weeks per year for an annual figure.
The effective hourly rate blends your regular and overtime pay across all hours worked that week, giving you a single average rate. This number is naturally higher than your base hourly rate whenever you work any overtime, and it's a useful figure for comparing total compensation against a job with a different hourly rate but no overtime.
1.5x ('time and a half') is the most common overtime rate in many countries for hours beyond a standard threshold (often 40 hours a week). Some situations, like certain holidays or hours beyond a higher threshold, may use 2x ('double time'). Check your local labor law or employment contract for the rate that applies to you.
Leave overtime hours at 0, and this calculator will simply show your regular pay projected weekly and annually, with the effective hourly rate equal to your base hourly rate.
Not everyone is paid for a full 52 weeks, unpaid leave, seasonal work, or specific contract terms can mean fewer paid weeks. Adjust this figure to get an annual estimate that matches your actual work schedule.
