This calculator applies the standard Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendation of 20-35% of total daily calories from fat, converting that percentage range of calories into grams using 9 calories per gram of fat.
For example, on a 2,000 kcal daily target: 20% of 2,000 is 400 kcal from fat (400 ÷ 9 ≈ 44 g), and 35% is 700 kcal (700 ÷ 9 ≈ 78 g), giving a recommended range of about 44 to 78 grams of fat per day.
The Macro Calculator estimates your full daily calorie target from your body stats, activity level and goal, then splits it into protein, carbs and fat. This calculator skips that step and works directly from a calorie target you already have, giving a quick standalone fat intake range.
Trying to hit both this range and the Carbohydrate Calculator's range and the Protein Calculator's range independently without checking they add up to 100% of calories, since these are general guideline ranges, not a single coordinated split like the Macro Calculator provides.
Assuming all fat should be avoided for weight loss, adequate fat intake supports hormone production and nutrient absorption, going well below this range isn't necessarily healthier.
Using an outdated or incorrect daily calorie target as the input, since the gram range scales directly with that figure, an inaccurate calorie target produces an inaccurate fat range.
It's the standard fat intake range recommended in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans for general health, balancing enough fat for hormone production and nutrient absorption without excess saturated fat intake.
Use the Calorie Goal Calculator or TDEE Calculator to estimate your daily calorie needs, then enter that figure here.
It depends on your goals and diet style, lower-fat, higher-carb diets and higher-fat, lower-carb diets can both fit within healthy guidelines. Use the Macro Calculator if you want a specific diet-style-based split.
