This calculator uses the Devine formula, one of the most widely used ideal body weight formulas: for men, Ideal Weight (kg) = 50 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60). For women, the same formula is used but starting from 45.5 kg instead of 50.
The formula is based on height over 5 feet (60 inches), adding 2.3 kg for every inch above that baseline.
This formula was originally developed for medical dosing calculations and provides only a general reference point. It doesn't account for muscle mass, bone structure, or individual body composition, so it shouldn't be treated as a strict personal weight goal.
It's a general estimate widely used in medical settings, but it doesn't account for muscle mass, frame size, or individual body composition, so actual healthy weight can vary from this estimate.
The formula uses different baseline constants for men and women to reflect typical differences in body composition, this is a simplification, not a precise individual assessment.
