This calculator uses 1024 as the conversion factor between units (the binary standard commonly used by operating systems), rather than 1000 (the decimal standard sometimes used by storage manufacturers), which is why file sizes can appear slightly different between your OS and a drive's advertised capacity.

Manufacturers typically advertise storage using the 1000-based decimal system, while operating systems display it using the 1024-based binary system, causing an apparent (but explainable) discrepancy.
