Ratio Calculator

To simplify a ratio, this calculator finds the greatest common divisor (GCD) of the two values and divides both by it, reducing the ratio to its lowest whole-number terms. For example, a ratio of 8:12 has a GCD of 4, simplifying to 2:3.

If either value includes decimals, both values are first scaled up to whole numbers (for example, 1.5:2 becomes 15:20) before finding the GCD, so the simplified ratio is still expressed in whole numbers.

A ratio like 2:3 can also be expressed as a decimal (2 ÷ 3 ≈ 0.667) or a percentage (about 66.7%), showing what the first value represents relative to the second. These different formats are useful depending on context, ratios are common in recipes and mixing proportions, while decimals and percentages are often more useful for comparisons.
